
Kat Toups MD, DFAPA, IFMCP
Kat Toups, MD, is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (the highest honor bestowed by the APA), and a certified practitioner with The Institute for Functional Medicine.
She has been a featured speaker at national and international medical conferences on dementia and functional medicine psychiatry topics, as well as a frequent guest on podcasts and summits. She is the author of two textbook chapters and has several upcoming papers on her recently completed Precision Medicine Dementia clinical trial.
Her specialty is reversing dementia, and she recently collaborated with Dr. Dale Bredesen on a prospective clinical trial using a Precision Medicine approach to reverse mild cognitive impairment and early dementia, where 84% of patients had improvement, including their MRI scans. The paper, “Precision Medicine Approach to Alzheimer’s Disease: Successful Pilot Project,” was published in the prestigious Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease in August 2022.
Dr. Toups and Dr. Bredesen have recently launched a larger randomized clinical trial utilizing the Precision Medicine approach to reversing mild cognitive impairment and early dementia that will be conducted at six sites around the country.
Dr. Toups is also the author of the upcoming book Dementia Demystified: Uncovering the Root Causes and Reversing Cognitive Decline – A Story of Hope, Healing, and Scientific Discovery from an Alzheimer’s Researcher.
